! hey uhh take me back to the main page please. you're takes are based though !

bea's yuri recommendations!

yes! i have realized i can use this site to say everything i could want to say about the yuri that i read.

i'm not sure what form this will take but i think this page with brief summaries of ones i like and then link to more in-depth writing on pages when applicable. categorize my faves... idk i'm just thinking out loud here on this web site

first recommendation! who does the big honor go to???

volume one of 'my girlfriend isn't here today', seven seas, kiyoko iwami

"My Girlfriend's Not Here Today" aka 今日はカノジョがいないから featured in yurihime monthly (get used to that lol)

links to support: english localization by seven seas || original japanese on bookwalker (volume 1)

to go a bit further into detail (a bit, bea! a bit! just a bit! *sobbing*) asahina yuni is in a relationship with her gf nanase but they both have decided to keep it a secret from their friends. yuni wants to spend more time with nanase but getting in the way of that are nanase's commitments in the volleyball club and the aforementioned "not letting anyone find out they're together"

the love triangle gets its start when yuni is waiting outside for nanase's club to finish up so they can go hang out, when she bumps into her classmate fuuko reading on the stairs. the two don't really hit it off (from memory. i first started reading this like two years ago haha) fuuko mostly seems really weird and disconnected. a line that stuck with me of hers was "humans just can't be as selfish as caterpillar fungus." what a good introduction to a character. anyways this was supposed to be the brief introduction haha. you see why this is the first rec.

but anyways the love triangle consists of

bottom line! what i like about the series Personally is the love triangle and the drama. i connect with it because i feel like i've been in a love triangle similar to this (i am fine and good now don't worry lol). especially around the time i started reading it i really felt like i could relate to yuni. i feel like i get how yuni feels a lot of the time. when she's doing something she probably shouldn't i can understand why. and i really want her to be ok in the end, no matter what else. and really i want to know what is going to happen to the yuni, fuuko and nanase. i wanna know if they end up happy. i wanna know if they can end up happy. but besides that, i'm really interested in the little change in dynamic that happens in the most recent arc. it's caught me off guard and i really don't know how things are going to be going forward. it's awesome. i would like to write more about the series and what i like about it and what makes it really special. i'd do so right now, but i've been reading each chapter as they release in yurihime monthly (in japanese. this was actually the first manga i decided to commit to reading fully in japanese!) so i don't have the best recollection of earlier parts of the story. a lot of the introduction to these characters happened, for me, like two years ago haha.

anyways that one went on much longer than i anticipated. but i enjoyed writing it all out so i will continue!

next recommendation is: read nmi aka んみ's manga. best one shots i've read full stop.

you can find nmi on twitter (currently x) here, pixiv here, and their lit.link (including links to works) here. please follow them and absolutely read their works. when i say they are the best oneshot manga i have read i really mean it. each of their works that i've read (at time of writing (27 september 2024) there are four) have been fantastic and really impressed me, each in a different way.

i would like to briefly talk about each one and what i think is special about it and conclude by explaining why i think nmi is the rising star of our yuri world

under construction !!!

honestly it's a lot so.
i'm just gonna list which manga i'm keeping up to date with (i will continue i have to go to bed)

while this list is pretty long and each story only has a bit written in about it.
i love all of these so much.
i will absolutely go on and on about every one of them on here at some point. i just wanted to put a "quick" list of what i'm readin

yuri is my job! aka 私の百合はお仕事です! by mihan

incredible chain of unrequited love in this one. layers on layers as the girls play characters in a yuri themed cafe.

a face you shouldn't show aka 映しちゃダメな顔 by FLOWERCHILD

very nsfw. cabaret top girl and submissive daytime idol girl. also featuring manipulative idol manager lady. goes places!

if that's love break it aka ぜんぶ壊して地獄で愛して (the jp title is much cooler and better) by kuwabara tamotsu

girls who hate each other beating each other up and breaking stuff. honor student class rep who is tired of the act. parental abuse victim classmate blackmailing her.

wanna skip school in the infirmary aka サボりなら保健室でどうぞ? by aoto hibiki

it's cute. i like when the mc is drawn covered in little cats whenever she's putting on her little "perfect class president" act.
also the nurse is super hot i need piercings like that.

howling song for husky girl aka キミが吠えるための歌を by kashikaze

newest series from author of "can't deny the lonely girl"
features girl with a deep husky voice who gets teased for it "not matching" her cute looks. and a cool music producing classmate who is working with her to both make it as musicians and get her to be more confident along the way.
really incredible art in the moments that go hard in this one.

no standalone volumes atm as it only started a few months ago but you can read it in yurihime monthly

koharu and minato aka 小春と港 by hiaruron and daruma

written and drawn by a real-life living together lesbian couple in japan. i like the art and the short manga stories tempo. good laughs but also very relatable emotional moments as well.

japanese on bookwalker.jp

our love is disgusting aka ボクラのアイは気持ち悪い by usui shio

newest from author of "married my girl friend"
has only started a few months ago, but the art is amazing. the story of a girl who makes lewd figures out of an obsession and her younger coworker who is only attracted to dolls. it's good to see more manga about girls who are and i say this with love and respect and care - freaks. it's awesome to see this subject matter drawn by this author who is really just fantastic.

serialization in yurihime monthly

asumi is interested in lesbian brothels aka 彩純ちゃんはレズ風俗に興味があります!

very nsfw sex all the time manga. the main story really gets me though. asumi is trying to reconnect with a childhood friend who she didn't realize was attracted to her (they kissed lol) until years after they were separated. but after her friend tells her that she has seen someone like her in sex work, asumi comes up with the genius plan. simply keep hooking up with these girls until one of them is her friend. lots of different sorts of girls and play. side characters are really good as well.

canaries dream of shining stars aka カナリアは綺羅星の夢をみる by sheepD

as a side note i didn't know kanaria meant canaries i just read it as a name, even though no character thus far is named that. omg im so dumb lol.
set in uhh past time japan, our mc wants to design clothes for women. she doesn't wanna get married off to some dude. she wants to make pretty clothes. she has friends in her girls school and they're really lovely and supporting her dream. she meets a pretty blonde sex worker at a party at her house and she definitely flirts with mc but our girl is just like "will you please model for me" and so she does! really hope things work out for these girls.

serialized in yurihime monthly

i want to love you till your dying day aka きみが死ぬまで恋をしたい by aono nachi

brutal and grim bloody yuri. girls at an orphanage academy are taught magic to go out to battle against rival nations. when they die nothing is left behind thanks to the magic collars they wear. sheena isn't very good at magic and is very afraid of dying. she doesn't want to be here but she doesn't have a choice or anywhere else to go. mimi is immortal and this magical war is just a game for her. another one where i'm reading it thinking "please let them be ok at the end." also features healing magic via kissing.

she loves to cook, and she loves to eat aka 作りたい女と食べたい女 by yuzuki sakaomi

this one really caught me off guard and it is so good.
it looks at least to me like it would be like a chill slice of life focused on the couple, but it's so much more. it feels like a manga that really truly cares about its subject, about lgbt+ people and our struggle, and eating disorders. everything is handled with so much respect and care. chapters have detailed content warnings when appropriate. also all of the characters are just fantastic. it's really heartwarming to see them work together to overcome their challenges. i love them all so much and i need them to be happy.

last but not least: i don't know which is love aka どれが恋かがわからない by tamamushi

very fun take on a love triangle / love hexagon / yuri battle manga. soraike strikes out with her girl friend and makes a vow that she will get a girlfriend in college. and there she stumbles into sooooo many girls who are into her. but she doesn't know which one she should be with. she doesn't know. which one is love. it's really really good and really really funny. tamamushi is really really good at writing fun manga that also hits you emotionally at times. really really enjoy this one.
